Activity

We will provide support for molecular profiling and screening based on chemical biology and bioinformatics. This support will both create excellent small-molecule bioprobes, and screen functional molecules relating to a vital phenomenon. This support will promote cross-sectional researches ranging from the small molecules to cell level, which will be hardly covered by the support using animal models alone. Through these activities, we contribute to make a breakthrough for life science research in Japan.

I. Support for molecular profiling: elucidate and confirm a biological activity and physiological property of chemical compound.

We evaluate the effects of the applicant’s chemical compounds on cell growth and morphological characteristics, and gene and protein expression. Employing bioinformatics analyses with a comprehensive database, we predict the target molecules of the test compounds. We offer the applicant a considerable advantage if the person is looking for support elucidating the unknown physiological activity of the novel compound that the applicant has isolated or synthesized, or support validating the specificity of a chemical compound as a small-molecule bioprobe and its off-target effects.

II. Support for molecular screening: identify chemical compounds and genes having impact on a vital phenomenon

We construct and distribute libraries of chemical compounds having defined targets (kinase inhibitors etc.) and small interfering RNAs. These libraries are useful in various purposes, including screening for regulators of biological events of the applicant’s interest and pilot tests of novel screening systems. Also we support to identify the regulator genes in vital phenomenon using functional genomics search with the use of barcode shRNA libraries.
